- What is Sunsector?
- A sun map for your property. Type your address, trace your yard, drop in the things that cast shade, and you get a map of how many hours of direct sun each square foot gets. Free to try, no signup, a couple of minutes start to finish.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. You get one full sun map every day, free, no account needed. Make a free account to save your map and try the planner tools. A subscription ($8.99/mo or $49.99/yr) unlocks unlimited saved properties and the full Planner.
- How accurate is the sun math?
- It's calculated, not guessed. Sunsector uses the standard astronomical equations for sun position, then casts real shadows from the structures and trees you place — the same math behind published sunrise/sunset tables. Accuracy comes down to how carefully you trace your obstructions and set their heights.
- Can it tell morning sun from afternoon sun?
- Yes — and it matters. Three hours of soft morning sun is a different world from three hours of harsh afternoon. Sunsector splits the two per spot, so you can place wild columbine, hostas, and ferns where the light is gentle and save the hot afternoon corners for tomatoes and coneflower.
- Do I need to download an app?
- No. Sunsector runs right in your browser. On a phone you can add it to your home screen for one-tap access — no app store required.
- Do I need an account?
- Not to make a sun map. An account lets you save your property, sync across devices, and use the planner tools. Creating one is free.
- What about the Planner?
- The Planner turns your sun map into placement recommendations, companion suggestions, and season-long tracking. It's rolling out — join the waitlist on the Planner page to hear when it lands.
- What regions do you support?
- The map and sun calculations work anywhere in the world — the solar math is global. Address lookup and frost-date defaults are sharpest in the US right now.
- Is my data private?
- Your property data stays yours. We don't sell it.
